APAC Adoptive Family Groups and Lecture Series
Autauga County - Adoptive Family Group meetings are held the 2nd
Monday
of each month from 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. at First
United Methodist Church, 100 East 4th Street
in
Prattville. Childcare is provided, as well as dinner for the

Butler County - Adoptive Family Group meetings are held the
2nd Tuesday of each month from 5:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at the Butler County Education
and Community Center, 221 School Highlands Road, Greenville, AL.
Dinner is at 5:30 p.m. and the group starts at 6:00 p.m. Childcare

Geneva County -
Lecture Series meetings are held the
1st Tuesday of each month from 6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at First United
Methodist Church, 304 South Academy Street in Geneva. The Lecture
Series is open to adoptive and foster families.
A certificate of attendance will be
provided to foster parents to take to their social worker for conversion
to CEUs. Childcare

meetings are held the
4th Tuesday of each month from 6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Calvary Baptist
Church in Dothan. The Lecture Series is open
to adoptive and foster families.

Montgomery County - Adoptive Family Group meetings are held
the 3rd Thursday of each month from 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. at Frazier
United Methodist Church in Montgomery. Childcare is

Russell County - Lecture Series
meetings are held the
3rd Thursday of each month from 6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. EST at Russell
County DHR, 1003 25th Avenue in Phenix City. A Children's Group
for ages 8 and up, with a therapist
facilitating
the group, meets at the same time. The Lecture Series is open to adoptive and foster
families. A certificate of
attendance will be provided to foster parents to take to their social
worker for conversion to CEUs. Childcare

Ongoing Happenings
Autism Society of Alabama
All
family members are welcome and childcare is provided. The mission of the
Autism Society of Alabama is to improve the quality of life of persons
with autism spectrum disorders and their families through education,
advocacy and support. Contact Helen Faught at the Southeast Alabama
Medical Center to find out more about this group. It meets at the
Southeast Alabama Medical Center on the fourth Thursday of each month.

Alabama Institute of Deaf and Blind
Impaired support group and referrals to other support groups. Meetings are
held for developing children and family goals. This center covers Houston,
Barbour, Henry, Dale, Coffee, Geneva and Covington counties. Most of their
services are free to residents of Alabama who have a diagnosed vision or
hearing loss of at least 25 percent and for children with a diagnosed

AlAdopt- Homeschool
This is a group for
adoptive families in Alabama who also homeschool their children. It is a
place where they can get to know each other and share information and
ideas. Domestic and international adoptive families are welcome. Groups
cover : Bullock, Butler, Crenshaw, Coffee, Covington, Dale, Geneva, Henry,

Support Group - Caring
Hearts
The monthly Caring Hearts Support Group
meetings are held at the Medical Center and are led by a physician or
other healthcare professional. Houston County Chapter, group meetings
offer patients and their families support and guidance in managing their
heart disease.

Dothan City Department of Leisure Services - The
Department of Leisure Services will host an after school program at East Highland. The program operates
Monday-Friday until 5:30 p.m. For more information call 344-793-0191.
Early Head Start Program - The Alfred Saliba Family
Services Center, Early Head Start program is accepting applications for
all infants and toddlers (birth to 30 months of age) as well as pregnant
women and children with disabilities for the 2002-2003 school year. For
more information, call Shana Demby at 794-8310, ext. 204, between 8 a.m.
and 4 p.m. Monday-Friday.
Head Start - The organized Community Action Program, Inc.,
Head Start is a nonprofit organization that serves low-income families in
a comprehensive child development setting. The organization is now taking
applications for the 2002-2003 school year ages 3,4 and five. Applications

Coffee County School System - Coffee County School
System is in the process of
identifying all persons with disabilities ages 3-21 years, who are not
enrolled in an educational setting. If you are the parent of a disabled
child, please call the Special Education Coordinator's office at the
Coffee County Board of Education at 897-5016.
Alabama Family Rights Association - This group meets
at 7-9 p.m. on the first and
third Mondays at Houston-Love Memorial Library, 212 West Burdeshaw, Dothan.

Families Anonymous - Dothan, Houston County Substance
Abuse Partnership meets 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays at 1276 Westgate Parkway, Suite
